FRANZ FERDINAND have been mighty quiet for the past couple of years, but with good reason – they’ve been busily working in the studio on what will be their fourth full-length album, from which they showcased several songs at a small gig in Ireland last week. Among the new tracks are the spiky, catchy “Right Thoughts,” with its sharp-meets-bubble-gum refrain (yes, it’s much like classic FF of yore) and the even more poppy (and even more danceable) “Fresh Strawberries,” which we can easily see/hear audiences yowling along with once Franz takes their newest shows on the road.

THE BBC’S famed and uber-popular Top of the Pops show, which was pulled off of the airwaves in 2006 after 42 years, is set to be revived as a stage show which will start its run by touring the UK this upcoming October. The show will feature a live band along with singers and dancers that will present tracks from the ’70s through the ’90s, including songs by Oasis, Blur, Duran Duran, David Bowie, and Blondie, among others. Audiences will also be treated to vintage Top of the Pops footage and other surprises.

THE NATIONAL are heading toward medieval lands from their home territory of Brooklyn via their recent work on a track for the television series Game of Thrones. The NY quartet recorded an original tune called “Castamere,” a reinvention of a song from the first run of the Game of Thrones series (titled “The Rains of Castamere.” This isn’t the first time that The National have contributed music to other productions; you can also hear one of their tracks on the indie movie Win Win and also within the computer game Portal 2.
