COLIN MELOY and his band The Decemberists are working on a new album, albeit very, very slowly – namely, the set that will be the follow-up to their 2011 album, The King Is Dead. While drummer John Moen recently completed his own solo album under the name Perhapst (Revise Your Maps, which was out last month on Jealous Butcher Records), he’s doing a pretty good job of balancing his solo work with the band’s schedule, and the new Decemberists set is already being recorded a little at a time, with Mr. Meloy, of course, at the helm as usual. Don’t expect to hear it too soon, though – word is that it won’t be mixed or released for at least another year.

MAZZY STAR release their first new album in a whopping 17 years this week, much to the delight of their longstanding fan base. Recorded half on the U.S. West Coast and half in Norway, the new set, titled Seasons of Your Day, was written by the band’s Hope Sandoval and David Roback, and will feature songs “In the Kingdom,” “Common Burn,” and “I’ve Gotta Stop” as well as first single “California.” The album also features a guest performance from late guitarist Bert Jansch on the track “Spoon.”

JOHNNY MARR, Jurassic 5, Lupe Fiasco, MGMT, King Khan and the Shrines, Quasi, and many, many more are heading to Austin, Texas for the 2013 Fun Fun Fun fest November 8-10, which focuses on indie/progressive music, DJs, and comedy (plus, of course, the requisite food and beverage booths and promo tents) – tix are on sale now for all the fun, fun, fun over at (what else?) funfunfunfest.com.
