SARAH MCLACHLAN released Shine On, her first album in four years, a couple of weeks ago, and she’s now packing up her bags to hit the road for a lengthy summertime U.S. tour that will start in Portland, Oregon on 6.22, and will include stops in Los Angeles (6.28), Kansas City (7.3), Boston (7.19), NYC (7.22), and New Orleans (8.1.) This will be the Canadian singer-songwriter’s first album for Verve Records, after leaving Nettwerk/Arista, the label she called home for over twenty years.

GARBAGE, Smashing Pumpkins, Against Me!, and Death Cab for Cutie are only a few of the bands that recorded at legendary (and late) recording studio Smart Studios in Wisconsin. While Smart’s doors are now closed, a proposed documentary film is in the works called The Smart Studios Story that will tell the tale of how Garbage drummer Butch Vig set up the facility to produce bands, and how it successfully did so for just over 28 years.

THE DECEMBERISTS are playing two special shows in the Pacific Northwest to benefit charity, the first on May 29 and the second May 30. The shows, which will take place at the McMenamins Crystal Ballroom in the band’s hometown of Portland, Oregon, will feature them performing their debut album, 2002’s Castaways and Cutouts, in its entirety, as well as a second set of what they’re calling “sentimental favourites.”
