Musician and Renaissance girl Kristi Kates launched online-exclusive Pyxis Magazine in January 2012 as an creative extension of her writing and photography work for such publications as Remix, EM (Electronic Musician), TravelBase, The Southampton/East Hampton Press, 27East, Express Magazine, Metropolitan Avenue, LiveCloud, and Groupee Music Hub.

Her writing experience to date includes interviews with musicians including OK Go, Jamie Lidell, Lisa Loeb, Moby, Editors, Chris Joss, Frank Turner, Owl City, Elbow, They Might Be Giants, White Rabbits, La Roux, The Decemberists, Loney Dear, fun., Dan Wilson, Bela Fleck, and Rufus Wainwright, as well as more eclectic interviewees like The Mythbusters (Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman), actor John C. Reilly, and auto innovator Paul Elio.

And in the realm of concert photography, she’s shot Snow Patrol, Cee Lo Green, Beirut, The Black Keys, Wilco, Eels, Bright Eyes, Sigur Ros, Franz Ferdinand, The Shins, Two Door Cinema Club, and Muse, among others.

Pyxis focuses on ‘All the Best Smart Indie Rock’ – musicians and bands from the US, the UK, Europe, and elsewhere – and also covers a shortlist of other topics including Film, Sci|Tech, Travel, On the Scene happenings, and Fab Finds, plus a dash of sarcasm and a eye toward fellow polymaths around the world. Kristi does all of the writing and photography, assisted by a cast of ever-morphing interns and a solid two-person support staff.

Pyxis Magazine celebrated its third year of publication on January 2, 2015.
